As someone who started with fan translated anmei and has lived on the adapted-to-drama end of the webnovel spectrum for the last few years, I find there's practically a subgenre of 'female general' novel that's big on battles, military strategy, supply lines etc, which I find fascinating. One 穿越 novel even had the reborn sniper protagonist train an elite combat force using, among other principles, Mao's 16 character formula! (Can't remember the name of the novel!)
That’s so interesting, let me know if you find the title! I suspect that the dichotomy between “male-reader-oriented history novels” and “female-reader-oriented historical romance novels” might not be accurate anymore, if it ever was...
Also, I love how broad the fan translation community is. No matter how niche a subgenre is, it feels like if you go looking, you can find some good novels from it that already have unofficial English versions (at least partial ones). Really wish licensed/official translations worked the same way.
